Break in the Clouds

Hate to sound like a broken record, but it’s been the same old same old for the last 24 hrs. Lazing about the hotel, drawing artifacts, trying to stave off boredom. There has been one chink in the clouds, though, in that UK airspace was opened once more just last night. We now have high hopes for Mark & Andy departing tomorrow and myself on Friday. The worry now, though, is what to do with the six or seven students who will be left behind over the weekend until their flights depart. I may have found them a place to stay with a complete stranger in Norfolk (aunt of a friend). However, Mark just informed me that he wants to have them stay here in the Outer Banks. I pointed out that that would then depend on folks willing to drive them all the way to Norfolk airport on Sunday and Monday, which he seems to think is no problem. *sigh* I’m starting to dread leaving these kids behind when I leave on Friday (IF I leave on Friday).

In other news, absolutely nothing else has happened. No digging yesterday, so folks just hung around the hotel mostly. We were treated to lunch at Conner’s Supermarket (people continue to be so incredibly nice to us here!) We also managed to trek next door for an ice cream at one point. It’s warmed back up a bit here, to the point that I’ve been able to take off my hoodie and even take a nap in the sun at one point yesterday. Other than that, boredom is taking its toll. Luckily, I’ve got a whole bunch of classic books loaded onto my iPod to keep me amused. I just finished Treasure Island the other day, and started reading the Count of Monte Cristo last night. I even turned on the fuzzy TV for a bit, but when I saw that Lost was on, I had to turn it back off because I have two other episodes to catch up on before watching last night’s. Bummer.

So, it looks like the siege may be lifting. I take Mark & Andy to the airport tomorrow morning, and myself on Friday. With any luck, those of you in Bristol will be seeing my tan and not-quite-so-relaxed self back in town by the weekend. Then it’s back to running to train for the ever-looming 10K and a lot of thinking to decide where I’m going to go with my dissertation. It’ll be a tough decision, but the time has come to make it.
