A very quick blog post while I hastily sip some Dunkin Donuts coffee in Kitty Hawk. Ellie (fellow former MA) and I are on the road for Norfolk. We left at 06:00 this morning (also known as “why the hell am I awake right now?” early), so some major caffeine intake was necessary once we hit civilization. Ellie has a flight out at 11:00, so I had to get her to the airport early for that. My flight to Newark isn’t until 17:15 this evening, but I’ve got the rental car until then, so I’m thinking about dropping her off and then heading back into Norfolk for a few hours.
Last night was a bittersweet moment, since I was really looking forward to heading back to England, but I was also sorry to have to say goodbye to all of the wonderful folks who have made the last three weeks memorable. Of course, the trip wouldn’t have been complete without one more night sitting up late in one of the hotel rooms. This time, though, it was because the bikers had started coming into town for a big rally this weekend, and there was quite a large rowdy bunch of them drinking outside our door. Luckily, they didn’t last long before they either headed inside or went to a bar, so we managed to get some sleep.
So, I’m now (finally) on my way back to Bristol and my own bed. Can’t wait to ditch my filthy dig clothes and be reunited with my fuzzy slippers. I should be touching down around 09:00 or so (BST) tomorrow morning in Bristol. I will be confused if it’s warm and sunny when I get back, but I also hope it is.
But, just in case I miss Carolina a bit, I’ve packed some corn meal and grits in my duffel bag to cook up when I get home.
